Finding the best gifts for travelers is no easy task! I always struggle to find travel gifts for my friends and other people who travel, and as an avid traveler myself, my family and friends can never figure out what to get for me.
Previously, I had two separate articles, one focused on travel gifts for men and the other focused on travel gifts for women. However, I decided to combine the two and create one truly ultimate guide to some of the top gifts for travelers for both him and her (and I don’t use the phrase “ultimate guide” lightly)!
The Best Gifts for Travelers
With a combined total of 59 travel gifts, I’m sure you’ll find some cool travel gift ideas for whomever you’re looking.
I am the ultimate nightmare when it comes to gift-giving—nobody ever knows what to get me for the holidays, or even my birthday which *cough, cough* is right around the corner.
But despite never telling my friends and family exactly what it is that I want, I have a knack for ending up with all the best gear and gadgets. This is a list of my favorite travel accessories (including a few that I don’t own yet), so if you’re looking for the best gifts for men who travel, or even just the best gifts for men in general, these are sure to please.
The Tortuga Outbreaker is one of the best carry-on backpacks on the market! Perfect for city dwellers and urban travelers, the Tortuga Outbreaker is durable, sturdy, and completely waterproof. Not to mention it keeps all your gadgets and clothes neat and organized with its built-in packing cubes and clamshell compartments.
Most importantly, it’s really, really comfortable to wear. With an adjustable harness system and ventilated back padding, the Tortuga Outbreaker is one of the most comfortable backpacks out there. For more info, check out our full Tortuga Outbreaker review.
What to do when you need good coffee on the go? Instant coffee just won’t cut it. The ESPRO Travel Press is a bonafide French press coffee maker crossed with a standard thermos. Not only do you get real coffee on the go, but it’ll keep your caffeine hot for the entire day!
It’s hard to find a durable wallet that holds everything without being too bulky. However, the minimalist NOMAD Goods Slim Leather Wallet does just that. It manages to stay slim while comfortably holding up to 12 cards. There are even two side pockets to hold all your cash. And, it’s made with American Horween leather, so you know it will last for a lifetime.
Can’t make up your mind on what the best gift for the traveler in your life might be? Let him decide by giving him an REI Gift Card! Car racks, paddle boards, and ski poles? REI has it covered. Sunglasses, swimwear, and doggy travel accessories? Yep, they’ve got that too.
If you depend on your smartphone as your primary camera then Moment Lenses should interest you. These smartphone lenses attach to your phone using a thin metal mounting plate, and once it’s in place, you’re ready to get snapping. With wide angle, telephoto, and fisheye lenses, the results are seriously impressive, making this a perfect travel gift for men who are avid photographers.
Cord Tacos are simple in concept, but they’re one of my favorite travel accessories of all. They’re taco-shaped pieces of leather with a button snap to keep your headphones and other cords from getting tangled into knots. Sweet!
We all need a reminder to stay calm once in a while…and travel solves everything, right? This t-shirt is a classic take on the one popularized by The Chive, except this one suits anybody who loves to travel. It’s perfect for that tailored look under a sweater or sweatshirt, or to wear by itself with a pair of jeans.
Buying bottled water is costly and bad for the environment. Especially in developing countries where the tap water isn’t safe to drink, there needs to be a better solution. The LifeStraw Go Filtered Water Bottle is one of the best gifts for men who travel—it turns undrinkable tap and river water into drinkable water.
The JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker is waterproof, so you can feel safe bringing it outdoors and in the water with you. You don’t have to worry about plugging it anywhere, as it lasts up to twelve hours. Bring it next time you’re out at the beach for a full day of your favorite music, or strap it to the outside of your backpack for some tunes while you’re hiking—it fits perfectly into your water bottle holder!
The Midori Traveler’s Notebook is so beautifully crafted you’ll want to write in it every day. Its interchangeable leather-bound cover gives it that vintage feel, and for every trip, just insert a new booklet to keep your notes in. It’s perfect for storing all your important documents, plus keeping track of train tickets, museum tickets, and more. You’ll create lasting memories of your travels and keep them here.
With an integrated pillow pocket and spacious foot box, the Cotopaxi Sueño Sleeping Bag is the best sleeping bag for any type of adventure. Made with 800-fill duck down, you’ll feel as if you’re sleeping on a cloud. Techies will love the built-in media pocket, which keeps all types of gadgets and accessories securely in place. On warm nights, the sleeping bag can fully unzip to become a lay-flat blanket. And at just under 3lbs, you can easily bring it on your backpacking or hiking trip!
The Peak Design Tech Pouch is a game-changer when it comes to staying organized on the road. Made from 200D recycled nylon canvas, this tech dopp kit is ultra-organized and weatherproof, to boot. The oragami-style pockets have plenty of space, zipper compartments, and storage slips for every type of accessory. Although it’s small and compact, the organizer manages to fit a ton of items with a lot of room to spare. For traveling men who like their gadgets, this one’s a no-brainer.
These might be the only pair of shoes you’ll ever need—literally. The GoPro Hero 7 Black is the ultimate traveler’s camera. It’s wearable, waterproof, shock-proof, voice-activated, and all around durable enough to handle even the most rugged of adventures. The 7 is GoPro’s newest version, complete with insanely smooth video stabilization, a touchscreen and 4K video at 60fps! No trip is complete without a GoPro in tow, and no list of gifts for travelers is complete without a GoPro.
We’ve all suffered the pain of a draining phone battery. In times of need, you’ll wish you had the Anker PowerCore by your side to give your phone a little extra juice. Despite its small size, this portable charging device packs a huge punch and is by far the best we’ve tried. It can charge your phone up to three times, as well as other electronic devices like cameras and iPads. No traveler should ever go on a trip without a portable battery pack like this one. This is one of the best gifts for travelers, hands down!
This is the best travel pillow I’ve ever used in my life—no word of a lie. With the Evolution S3, Cabeau has worked hard to create a next-evolution pillow with both front-chin support and side support. It’s incredibly soft and comfortable and, best of all, it straps securely to your seat, which means it holds your head firmly in place. No more neck pains or head bobbing with this pillow! Its cover is washable, and it reduces to a small travel size and includes an attachable bag, to boot. This belongs in every traveler’s arsenal.
Any outdoor enthusiast knows that the Arc’teryx LT Atom Hoody is a must-have wardrobe staple. Constructed from synthetic insulating materials, the Atom Hoody is breathable, lightweight, but most importantly, water and wind resistance. It can be worn on its own or layered with other shells or insulated jackets. Made for the active guy who’s always on an adventure, the Atom LT can be worn skiing, hiking, and even ice climbing!
The Tile Pro attaches to pretty much any item (keys…even a dog’s collar!) or the slim version slides into a wallet, passport, or a pocket in your backpack. Integrated Bluetooth allows you to ring your Tile, locate the last place you had it, or god-forbid, track it down (completely anonymously!) when it passes within range of anyone else in the Tile community (which is huge, by the way). It’s incredibly handy both on the road and at home.
The BauBax travel jacket is the Swiss army knife of jackets. It comes in four different styles: vest, bomber, sweatshirt and windbreaker, all of which have the same awesome 25 features: built-in neck pillows, gloves, eye masks, blankets, bottles, a footrest (yes, really) and 12 more utility pockets. Is that the best-sounding jacket ever or what? Any guy who travels won’t just want one of these—he’ll need it!
I like to look good when I travel. Stitch Fix takes the fuss out of shopping—just enter your size and style preference, and you’ll get pre-styled outfits, put together by a personal stylist, right at your doorstep a few days later. You only pay for the items you like and send back the ones you don’t, free of charge. Just give a gift card and let him take care of the rest—it’s the perfect gift for travelers who like to look stylish on the road, but don’t want to go shopping themselves. Read my full Stitch Fix review here.
If you’re looking for a self-sustainable gift that just keeps on giving, this is it. For anyone who loves camping, The BioLite CampStove 2 Bundle is one of the best travel gift ideas. It’s a stove that you can carry around without the hassle of having to carry gas or fuel. It grills, cooks, boils and even has USB ports to charge your devices! Who doesn’t love a good hammock!? The Roo Hammock by Kammok is the ultimate gift for anyone who loves to backpack. The hammock fits two people and is extremely lightweight and easy to pack up in a hurry, so you can sleep anywhere.
The Ultimate Man’s Survival Guide is the go-to resource for men to handle any situation out in the wild, from escaping alligators to mixing the perfect martini. More than just how to do manly things, this book also discusses the definition of manliness and the true essence of being a man in today’s world.
As a guy, I know that finding travel gifts for her is no easy task. I grew up surrounded by women, and every year found myself with significantly less hair after the holiday season—the months leading up to December were spent pulling my hair out, trying to decide what gifts to get for the women in my life who travel.
Since I’m still no expert (besides, who wants to read a gift guide for women written by a man?), I reached out to one of my favorite ladies (a.k.a. my sister) who offered the low-down on some of the best gifts for women who travel. These are hand-picked travel gifts for her that she will genuinely love—I promise.
Let her show her love of travel on her feet! Bucketfeet collaborates with artists worldwide to design a constantly rotating set of limited edition shoes. An artist and backpacker collaborated to create this unique, global brand and this pair shows a true sense of wanderlust…reminding us of everything to explore and all the conversations to be had worldwide.
Every woman who travels is well acquainted with the annoyance that is liquids. You need them on the plane, but you can’t take them in your carry-on. This means pouring a splash of everything you need into tiny little containers just for the journey. The Kiehl’s Healthy Skin Starter Kit has travel-sized bottles and is a guaranteed travel gift for her that’ll make life a lot easier. All of the toiletries are already packaged in 100ml containers. Airport security will be a breeze from here on out.
People with travel pillows on planes are always the envy of every other passenger. Why not let her be that person? The Cabeau Evolution S3 Travel Pillow is the best one I’ve used, period. With front and side supports, and the ability to attach it to your headrest, she’ll never wake up during a flight with a permanently crippled neck. It might not seem like much but it’ll revolutionize how she travels.
Not to imply that she’s apt to lose things—but it’s every traveler’s worst fear. The Tile Style attaches to pretty much any item (keys…even a dog’s collar!) or the slim version slides into a wallet or passport. Integrated Bluetooth allows you to ring your Tile, locate the last place you had it, or god-forbid, track it down (completely anonymously!) when it passes within range of anyone else in the Tile community. It’s handy on the road or at home.
If she’s the type of person that’s always freezing on buses, trains, planes, and even at night under a fluffy comforter, the rev’pod™ may just be the perfect travel gift for her. Sustainable fabric, softer than anything else she owns, nice and snuggly, and best of all, it folds up small, she just may find herself living in this genius robe-like loungewear.
If she travels a lot then why not get her a travel gift that lets her do it both comfortably and in style? There is nothing worse than being stuck on a bus or plane for eight hours unable to get comfy. This cashmere travel set allows her to inject a bit of luxury into her travels and will keep her warm on her journey. Note: it’s cashmere, so it’s not cheap!
The Fitbit Versa is an ideal gift for any traveler wanting to get in shape and stay healthy. This smartwatch won’t need charging for more than four days and features a 24/7 heart rate, phone-free music, coaching and more. It’s lightweight, water resistant and will help her both set and reach her fitness goals.
Believe it or not, this little speaker is waterproof, shockproof, straps on to pretty much anything (it even fits perfectly in a cup holder or backpack water bottle holder), and lasts up to 12 hours—all while providing killer sound. There are a lot of bluetooth speakers on the market, but this is the best one we’ve tried.
Power banks are lifesavers for people who travel. That bus with free WiFi isn’t going to be much fun if your phone dies two hours into the journey. Help her stay fully charged at all times by treating her to an ultra-slim power bank from Anker. It’s the perfect size—small enough to fit in her purse or the outside pocket of a backpack.
Give her a Stitch Fix gift card and her own personal shopper will cultivate a wardrobe just for her and with her input…so she can get exactly what she wants for her next trip. Stitch Fix’s personal stylists can outfit her for the beach, the mountains, a romantic getaway, and everything in between. Click here to read the full Stitch Fix review.
The Kindle Paperwhite can easily slide into a purse or even a back pocket. Super-lightweight so she can take dozens (or hundreds!) of books on any trip. Plus, the ability to easily export notes and highlights to email means she can discretely bring her guidebook along without looking like a tourist. Don’t forget to accessorize it with a cute cover too 😉
If you manage to get this right then you’ll win big points. Cambiami offers a design your own sandal service so you can create the perfect travel gift for her. Choose from four possible soles and then pick your strap. This is a bit of a test for how well you know her but if you can pull it off you’ll be forever in her good books. Even better than that, because they’re custom made, no-one else will have a pair of flats quite like them!
Who knew safety could look this good? The Speakeasy Hidden Pocket Travel Scarf protects passports and other valuables in the most stylish way possible. Securely store chapsticks, ID cards, house keys, and other small items with the hidden, self-locking zipper. Choose between dozens of colors and patterns to coordinate with any outfit. Speakeasy Travel Scarves come in both lightweight fabrics for summertime or heavy, cozy fabrics for colder weather.
Is she curious to know a little bit more about who she is? Who isn’t? The 23andMe Ancestry Test will tell her where her ancestors lived more than half a millennium ago! The ancestry test is a really unique gift idea for travelers, especially if they’re interested in their heritage and might even be interested in tracing their family’s footsteps. To take it a step further, upgrade her kit to include a full health report!
Ever needed to hand wash some clothes on a trip but found yourself in the middle of nowhere with no laundry machines around? Ta-da, The Scrubba Wash Bag is the solution! This genius product is basically the smallest washing machine there is, and it’s a necessary travel gift for anyone heading on a backpacking or camping trip. Owning one of these will help save on time, money and water. Plus, it’s pocket sized, so you can take it absolutely anywhere!
There is nothing worse than your plethora of charging cables tangling themselves into chaos. This stylish charger roll up eliminates that problem. Never again will she have to extract her headphones from her kindle wire. She also won’t need to worry about her cables getting damaged in her bag while on the road. The cherry on top of this leather delight? This travel gift for her is even better with initials monogrammed on it!
It’s about time women had a way to track their exercise without having to don some unsightly step counter on their wrist. The Fitbit tried to make trackers more stylish and now Ringly has taken it a step further. Ringly has incorporated fitness trackers into beautiful jewelry that people actually want to wear. Goodbye ugly, clunky tracker, this is one of the travel gifts for her that isn’t going back to the store.
She’ll never have to hunt for her charger again or wish she hadn’t checked it in her luggage, with this decorative tassel clipped to her purse and ready to go at the next charging station she comes across.
BauBax makes multifunction jacketsjust for people who travel—and they make for a unique gift idea, too! With four primary styles—bomber, sweatshirt, vest and windbreaker—everybody will find the look they’re going for. Plus, the primary selling point of these jackets: They’re loaded with more than 25 features, including built-in gloves, a water bottle, inflatable travel pillow, a blanket, and even a footrest! It’s like the Swiss Army Knife of jackets. That’s not to mention all the pockets, so you can carry-on what you need instead of checking it.
Durable, stands upright, and available in a plethora of fun patterns and colors, she won’t be able to help but smile every time she unpacks this one of these cosmetic cases from Lolo! For a little something extra, get a coordinating luggage tag and she’ll remember you every time she looks at her suitcase.
Where better to concoct a bespoke cocktail than 30,000 ft in the air? These little pouches of boozy goodness allow her to whip up two cocktails wherever she is. One for her and one for you. Or both for her. All she needs is a glass and the requisite alcohol. You can’t go wrong with one of these gifts for travelers!
A toothbrush might be an odd travel gift for her but oral hygiene is sometimes hard to maintain on the road. The last thing you want on the road is a cavity! The Quip toothbrush has been expertly designed with the right sized bristles and perfect level of vibration to make your teeth gleam. The charger is slim-line and the toothbrush is equipped with a timer so you know when you’re done. She’ll thank you for this one!
There’s nothing worse than trying to style hair using an old hotel blow dryer. Thanks to the BaBylissPro Travel Dryer, women no longer have to suffer from wet, frizzy hair when traveling! It can be tucked into any purse or suitcase with it’s sleek, compact design and folding handle. And unlike most travel hairdryers, the BaBylissPro Travel Dryer uses tourmaline titanium technology that leaves hair shiny and frizz-free in just a fraction of the time.
Ever been on a trip and needed to make a call or send a message, but couldn’t because there wasn’t any signal? Pair the goTenna Mesh with your phone to create your own signal! It can be used for so many good reasons (like safety) for a group of friends on a hiking trip, at a festival or while traveling in remote areas. The goTenna mesh is a unique gift idea for both guys and girls who travel!
What traveler wouldn’t LOVE a GoPro!? Their latest release—the GoPro Hero 7 Black—is hands-free voice-controlled, wearable, waterproof, has a touchscreen and gimbal-like stabilization! Plus, it records 4K in 60fps! A simply perfect travel gift for her if she has an adventurous spirit.
The LifeStraw Go Filtered water bottle sips like a Camelbak and contains no BPA or other icky chemicals. Plus it filters out bacteria, heavy metals, and any foul taste, meaning she can fill up anywhere knowing she doesn’t have to worry about water quality. It’s a great travel gift for her to avoid drinking funky hotel water on her travels (and save plastic!).
A great travel gift for her, the over-packer with way too many products – Trish McEvoy’s makeup planner will keep her organized and keep everything compact. Individual “wardrobing” pages that she can customize with her favorite products snap into this luxurious, petite planner and eliminates the need for lots of individual cases for each of her favorite products.
For every traveler, there are some special places that stay with us forever. Give her custom art from 08left or a set of all her favorite cities to keep those memories and travels alive every day. If I had a more permanent residence, I’d have these all over my walls!
