Binalong Bay and the Bay of Fires is Where Paradise is Found

The Bay of Fires, in the northeastern part of Tasmania, is renowned for its beaches. They're a bit out of the way so they don't get as much traffic as other places but I must say–I'm glad I spent the extra time getting out there. This is where I found bliss.

Binalong Bay

Binalong Bay isn't actually a part of the Bay of Fires, but it's right next door. I jumped in my little Nissan rental and just drove. It's another one of those roads where you see something amazing off to the side, screech to a halt, leave your keys in the car (because you just can't be bothered to lock up), and skip your way towards the water. It's these types of places that really get me excited.

Beach at Binalong Bay

Because I was on a tight schedule I had to fit about seven stops into about five hours but, as the type who does my best work under pressure, I made the most out of it. I spent about a half hour sitting on the first beach, and about 15 minutes at each of the following. Simply exploring the side roads that seem to lead nowhere, I found my paradise.

Multiple times. At one point I found this tiny little swimming hole, untouched and hidden by a load of trees and big rocks. I threw on my boardies and dove right in. There's no better feeling than exploring and finding exactly what it was that you didn't know you were looking for.

Swimming Hole, Binalong Bay

There's only one road that you can take and, if you drive all the way to the end (I thought I was on somebody's property), there's a swimming hole, sand dune, rock ledge and crashing waves all in the same area. It was like nature's playground! Swimming, rolling in the sand, boulder jumping, photo-ops, etc. There was literally no other place in the world that I wanted to be.
